From First Search to Dream Kitchen: A Kitchen Remodel Built on Trust
When this Hanover home was purchased in 2021, the new homeowners knew one thing for sure: it needed updates.
Like many older New England homes, it had charm, but also spaces that did not fit their lifestyle. At the top of their wish list? A kitchen renovation. But like many homeowners starting their remodeling journey, they weren’t quite sure where to begin or what to expect.
A Different Kind of First Impression
With no prior remodeling experience and no referrals to rely on, the search began the way it does for many: online with a simple Google search.
They connected with another contractor but received a dismissive response, leaving them feeling discouraged. But that Google search also led them to Foremost Builders.
With Foremost Builders, the experience was entirely different.
After exploring project galleries and getting a feel for the company online, they scheduled an initial call with our owner Dave. That first conversation made an immediate positive impression. There was no feeling of pressure, just a genuine discussion about their home, their goals, and what the process could look like.
Most importantly, it felt like a good fit.
Instead of assumptions, the team focused on home remodeling education and conversation. During an in-home visit, real project examples and realistic cost ranges were shared openly, helping the homeowners better understand what was possible and what to expect.
That transparency built confidence.

Designing with Flexibility in Mind
The original plan was to start with a bathroom renovation. However, as conversations continued with Foremost Builders designer Matt, a new idea emerged. What if they reimagined the kitchen now rather than later?
With a creative approach to layout and scope, the team presented a path forward that made the kitchen renovation achievable within a similar investment range.
What started as a bathroom project quickly evolved into the kitchen they had been dreaming about all along.
“They were very willing to change directions and go with what we wanted and be flexible.” – Hanover, NH Homeowner
Listening to What Matters Most
As the design process evolved, something subtle became clear during conversations with the homeowners: while the bathroom was the original starting point, the kitchen was always where their vision kept returning.
Rather than locking the project into a fixed path, Matt, a Foremost Builder designer, recognized an opportunity to pause and reframe the priorities.
Because while the bathroom had been planned first, it was the kitchen that consistently carried more emotional weight for the homeowners. It was the space they talked about most, envisioned most clearly, and ultimately valued most for daily life.
That insight led to an intentional shift in direction. The team completed the bathroom design as planned, but pivoted the build focus to the kitchen first. This allowed the homeowners to move forward with the space that mattered most, while keeping the bathroom design ready for a future phase.
After the kitchen was completed, the bathroom project followed, creating a natural, phased approach that aligned with both budget and lifestyle.
A Kitchen Designed for Everyday Living

The finished kitchen reflects both the homeowners’ vision and the character of their New England home: warm, welcoming, and built for daily life.
At the center of the space, a large white island anchors the room, offering both storage and functionality. Topped with a soft gray soapstone surface and featuring an integrated sink, it serves as both a prep space and a natural gathering point. Seating for four along one side makes it easy for family and friends to pull up a stool and stay connected while meals are prepared.
Overhead, bubble glass pendant lights add a touch of texture and visual interest, complementing the home’s overall farmhouse-inspired aesthetic.
Surrounding the island, white cabinetry keeps the space feeling bright and timeless, while stainless steel appliances bring modern performance into the space without disrupting its classic feel.
One of the renovated kitchen’s standout features is the cooking area. A striking gray soapstone accent wall behind the range, complete with a pot filler faucet. This focal point adds contrast and character while enhancing functionality for everyday cooking.
One of the most unique design details in the home is the seamless continuity between materials. Wide-plank wood flooring paired with matching tongue-and-groove ceiling treatments creates a cohesive, old-world New England feel.
Solving Challenges Proactively
While this project didn’t present major structural complications, thoughtful adjustments behind the scenes played an important role in the success of the build.
One key consideration was additional structural support for the kitchen island. To ensure long-term stability, framing was added to the basement ceiling below, reinforcing the floor system where the island sits above. This type of proactive planning helped ensure the design intent could be executed without issue.
The kitchen itself also came with an interesting layout story. The space was originally a living area, while the home’s first kitchen had been confined by a structural post. Rather than working within those limitations, the design reimagined the layout entirely, removing the old kitchen footprint and expanding into the living space.
That former kitchen area has since been transformed into a playroom for the homeowners’ young children, ensuring the entire home functions more effectively without sacrificing flow or usability during construction.

Another Project Already in Motion
What makes this project even more meaningful is that it didn’t end with the kitchen.
Shortly after the kitchen was completed in early March 2025, the homeowners moved forward with their next phase: a primary bathroom renovation, which wrapped up in mid-April 2026.
With both spaces now complete, conversations have already begun about what’s next, continuing a long-term relationship built on trust, collaboration, and thoughtful planning.
For Foremost Builders, this kind of ongoing partnership is the goal: not just completing a project but supporting the evolution of a home over time.
A Process Built on Communication

From the beginning, clear communication and detailed planning defined the experience.
The Foremost Builders team mapped out the project timeline well in advance, giving the homeowners a clear understanding of what to expect at every stage. Weekly updates, consistent check-ins, and organized project management tools ensured there were no surprises along the way.
Craftsmanship You Can Trust
As construction began, the focus shifted to execution, and the quality of craftsmanship quickly became clear.
From the lead carpenter on-site to the weekly involvement of Foremost Builders’ field manager, every aspect of the project was approached with care and attention to detail. Regular walkthroughs ensured questions were addressed, adjustments were made when needed, and expectations were consistently met.
Even when small challenges arose, the team responded quickly, resolving issues without adding stress to the homeowners.
The result was a finished space that reflected both the vision and the level of quality they were hoping for.
A Kitchen Worth the Wait
Today, the kitchen has become exactly what the homeowners envisioned when they first purchased their home.
A space that feels fresh, functional, and thoughtfully designed. A place where daily life unfolds more easily, and where the family can gather, cook, and connect.
Looking back, what stood out most wasn’t just the result; it was the experience along the way and the “excellent craftsmanship,” according to the homeowners.
A process built on trust. A team that prioritized communication. And a willingness to adapt, guide, and collaborate every step of the way.
Building More Than a Remodel
For homeowners navigating a renovation for the first time, the process can feel overwhelming, but with the right team, it becomes something else entirely.
It becomes an opportunity to reimagine what home can be and to bring that vision to life with confidence.
